Inspection and Testing -
Help is at Hand!
FIXED WIRING & PORTABLE
APPLIANCE TESTING (PAT)
Arguably the topic which causes the most
confusion in the electrical industry (amongst contractors and customers!),
inspection and testing is probably the most vital part of any electrical
installation. A correctly inspected, tested and certified installation should
give years of trouble free service. When the system breaks down and faults occur
they can be dealt with swiftly and safely provided that the incoming electrician
has all the information to hand about the installation he is working on.
Unfortunately, all too often, installations are
poorly maintained and frequently no certification or even labelling is present
to enable fast, effective isolation and fault diagnosis. A properly certified
installation will repay the owner several times over in savings on downtime
costs, and future installations / additions. The risk of any injury from
electrical shock will also be minimised.
Here at Accolade we realise that inspection and
testing is not an easy subject for the customer to get to grips with. Very often
we hear questions like: "How often do I test?", "Do I need to test?", and "Where
can I find more information?". Fortunately we are here to help you. In our links
section you will find links to useful websites such as the NICEIC, ECA and HSE
where you should find all the information you need to know about electrical
inspection and testing, and how it may apply to you. If you can't find what
you're looking for there, just pick up the phone and give us a call! One of our
engineers would be more than happy to offer advice on your testing requirements
and to book a free no obligation quotation where necessary.
We undertake
a broad range of electrical inspection and testing, ranging from the basic home
buyers report as requested by many mortgage lenders, insurance companies &
letting agents through to full commercial certification of new & existing
installations. As
a company we inspect and test electrical installations for compliance with the
safety and legal requirement of the Electricity at Work regulations 1989, which
is statutory law within the United Kingdom. To achieve this compliance we
utilise our engineering skills and experience in combination with guidance from,
in particular BS7671:2004 (Requirements for Electrical Installations) , Guidance
Note 3 (Inspection and Testing published by the IEE) , The NICEIC Technical
Manual and others, via the most practicable means for our customers.
All of our test equipment is subject to calibration checks in
order to maintain instrument accuracy. We calibrate all of our test equipment
annually at a UKAS traceable test facility and all of our instruments are
rigorously checked monthly by our engineers to ensure continuing accuracy.
