Since the turn of the century when we first started to use electricity in our homes, the amount of electrically powered equipment we use day to day has steadily increased. Unfortunately, this increase in demand requires an upgrade of the electrical system and all too often domestic installations are poorly designed, installed and maintained.

For example, did you know that BS7671 (Requirements for Electrical Installations) recommends that domestic installations are inspected every 10 years to ensure compliance with the regulations and that installations are safe to use / fit for purpose? The consumer unit (Fuseboard) should be clearly labelled and should also display inspection stickers showing the last inspection and date of the next inspection. Socket outlets which might reasonably be expected to supply portable equipment outdoors must also be protected by a 30mA RCD in order to prevent electric shock to users.

Your consumer unit should look something like this:

A. Main Switch

B. Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs)

C Residual Current Device (RCD)

NB. Take note of labelling shown.

It is important that your consumer unit is clearly and correctly labelled

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) estimates that some 12500 domestic fires every year are caused by an electrical fault and that in these fires an average of 20 deaths are sufferred as a result.

In order to try and improve the standard of electrical installation work in our homes the Government has introduced a new Section to the Building Regulations (Part P) which which came in to force on January 1st 2005. Now, all electrical work carried out on domestic installations (with some exceptions for very minor work) must be carried out by a Part P Approved Domestic Installer, or inspected by the Local Authority on completion.

Just one call to our office, will be your first step to a safe, sound installation with complete peace of mind at a competitive price. We are an NICEIC Approved Domestic Installer, all our domestic installation work is guaranteed for a 12 month period, all work is certified in accordance with the Industry Standard (BS7671)  and best of all, because we are an NICEIC Approved Domestic Installer, our work is backed by the NICEIC Part P Approved 6 Year Warranty Scheme, ensuring technical compliance with BS7671.
